The Cosmic Trigger explores a question that has fascinated historians, researchers, and audiences for decades: what was being seen in the skies over New Mexico in the years following the Trinity Test? Set against the backdrop of the atomic age, the documentary examines reports of unexplained aerial phenomena near some of the nation’s most sensitive military and scientific areas including White Sands, Holloman AFB, and surrounding atomic sites in the years after the July 16, 1945 Trinity detonation.

Larry L. Sheffield is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and producer known for his historical trilogy focused on the atomic era and the military history of New Mexico. Sheffield’s work often draws from declassified military documents and archival footage, influenced by his personal connection to the region—his grandfather worked at Los Alamos and other Manhattan Project sites.
